Description
Tender cabbage leaves stuffed with savory ground beef, rice, and herbs, baked with tomato sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 head of green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (dill and parsley)
- Olive oil (for sautéing)
- Optional: cheese for topping
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Core the cabbage and add it to the pot, cooking until leaves soften (about 5 minutes). Carefully remove the leaves and let them cool.
- Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the finely chopped onion until translucent, then add garlic, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
- Combine the sautéed onion and garlic with the ground beef, rice, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Mix until just combined.
- Take a cabbage leaf, place a generous scoop of the filling near the base, and roll it up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go. Repeat until all the filling is used.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread a layer of tomato sauce at the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange the rolls seam-side down on top, then cover with more sauce.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 40 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Notes
Serve with crusty bread and a light salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days, or freeze for up to three months.
