Description

A nostalgic and creamy green bean casserole with a crunchy topping, perfect for holiday feasts and family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup fried onions
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, black pepper, nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare the green beans: Trim the ends of the green beans and blanch them in boiling salted water for about 3-4 minutes. Immediately transfer them to an ice bath to halt the cooking process.
  2. Make the sauce: In a large skillet, sauté diced onions in butter until soft. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and milk, mixing until smooth. Add seasonings to taste and simmer for a few minutes.
  3. Combine the ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine blanched green beans with the sauce. Ensure the beans are evenly coated before transferring to a greased baking dish.
  4. Add topping and bake: Spread the mixture in an even layer in the dish. Sprinkle the crushed fried onions generously over the top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

This casserole can be made ahead of time. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to four days or freeze without the topping.
